‘London Making Now’, 2021

… making is still an intrinsic part of London’s economy and its creative identity, bringing together an exciting network of craftspeople, artists, activists, designers and educators. London Making Now will give our visitors a broad snapshot of London’s continued role as a centre for innovative craft and design.

This permanent group exhibition explores contemporary making in London. My piece ‘Panel Discussion’ was acquired by The Museum of London and is on display alongside Yinka Ilori, James Shaw, Alison Cooke and many others.

I originally made the piece back in 2017 for my solo show ‘Clad’. The quote is taken from Henry Mayhew’s 1860’s work: ‘London Living and the London Poor’. It explores the daunting feeling of arriving / moving to London, and how that has historically always been the case for people who are both attracted and confused by the cities vastness.

The form was inspired by a crudely constructed shrine from 15th Century Italy. At the time I was exploring the three-dimensional qualities of ‘the tile’ during my residency at The V&A Museum, London.
